When someone lets you know they’re leaving your Hub group, it’s an opportunity to disciple them and show them love and care. For some, that means keeping relationships open so they can return in the future. For others, it means helping them connect with a new church family where they can keep growing.
When a member lets you know they are leaving, here are key steps to take.
1. Reason for leaving
People leave Scots for various reasons: moving for work or study, visa changes, or life transitions. Sometimes there may be personal or spiritual reasons too.
As a Hub leader, take time for a gentle conversation to understand what’s behind their decision and how you can best support them. We want to respect people’s privacy regarding the reasons for leaving, which may influence whether they are formally farewelled. If the situation feels sensitive or complex, please reach out to the Hub coordinator for guidance.
2. Communication
Email pastoral staff (Craig and Jess) so they are aware.
Encourage the person to inform their serve team coordinators (e.g. greeting, music).
3. Farewell
We want to thank and pray for those leaving in ways that are appropriate for them.
- Leaders (Hub leaders or coordinators): usually farewelled with an interview and prayer at Hub Huddle.
- Hub members: usually farewelled with prayer in their Hub group, or sometimes at Hub Huddle.
- If someone prefers privacy, farewell them within your group only.
- To arrange a farewell at Hub Huddle, contact the Hub night coordinator with their last night and who will pray for them.
4. Ongoing support from Hub group
After they leave, your Hub group remains “linked” to them for three months. This helps your group keep praying for them as they adjust to a new location or church.
