Our gracious God is the giver of life and so welcoming a new baby is a wonderful opportunity to show love and practical care to those in our church community.
Within our Hub groups, we want to care well for new parents in practical, prayerful, and relational ways. Planning ahead helps families feel supported and valued during this big transition.
1. Practical Care
- Caring practically is one of the simplest ways we can show love to a family welcoming a baby.
- One person from their Hub group should act as the contact person to organise support such as meals, prayer and visits.
- This contact person should check the family’s preferences (dietary needs, type of meals, freezer friendly, drop-off details) and sets a timeframe (around 6 weeks). We cannot promise to provide, but invite those in Scots to show care and hospitality.
- The Hub group takes primary responsibility, but others can join in through the Hub Huddle or Friday email (contact admin@scotschurchsydney.org)
- The common practice is to pick up meals from the Scots freezer. One website often used to coordinate meals is Take Them a Meal, meal train or using a google sheet.
2. Prayer
Prayer is one of the most meaningful ways we celebrate new life and support parents.
- Hub nights are the best setting to share baby news and pray.
- Before announcing, ask the parents’ permission to share with the wider church.
- If approved by the parents, let the Hub night coordinator know when to announce and pray.
3. Church Building Support
Having a baby often means navigating new spaces and routines at church.
- Pair the family with another parent or family to help them get familiar with the family zone, including where to find the change table, play area, and lift (currently unavailable.
