Scots Church Sydney is proud to be the venue for the 2018 Clark Lecture. It will be delivered by Professor John Haldane (Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of St Andrews in Scotland) and is titled Character and the Common Good: Character Formation in the 21st Century. The event is presented by The Scots College, Sydney.

Professor John Haldane is the J. Newton Rayzor Sr. Distinguished Professor of Philosophy at Baylor University, Texas and a Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of St Andrews, Scotland. He received his higher education in the Visual Arts, initially at Medway College of Design. Thereafter, he attended Wimbledon School of Art (University of the Arts London) (BA in Fine Art) and studied and trained for Art Education at the University of London, Institute of Education (PGCE). After graduating, he began studying philosophy at the University of London, Birkbeck College, receiving a BA Philosophy and PhD.

A proponent of analytical approaches to the philosophy of Thomas Aquinas, Professor Haldane has authored or edited dozens of articles and books, including “An Intelligent Person’s Guide to Religion”, “Faithful Reason: Essays Catholic and Philosophical”, “Reasonable Faith”, and “Atheism and Theism”. He has also appeared on several BBC radio and television programs and contributed to the Times, the Daily Telegraph, The Scotsman, and several other outlets.

Professor John Haldane has well over 200 publications that deal with subjects such as Art and Aesthetics, Education, Ethics, the History of Philosophy, the Philosophy of the Mind, Epistemology and Metaphysics, Political and Social Philosophy, Philosophy of Religion, and Theology.
